Cooloo's book review(July) on "Understanding DADGAD for fingerstyle guitar by Doug Young"
書評
It's not just another book that's full of chord charts to show you where to find chord tones on a DADGAD tuned guitar, or a collection of tunes in tab without much explanation of hows and whys.
Although there's little background info about the writer can be found on the pages of the book, Doug tries his best to lead the readers step by step through the journey of the exploring of guitar playing in DADGAD tuning.
The book is in an easy to understand format and provides readers enough experiments to get used to chord formation and voicings, relationships between strings, different scales fingerings and double-stops patterns and many more like tricks and improvisation tools. Doug also shares thoughts on how to convert standard tuning to DADGAD in the way of thinking.
I have never read such an informative book on this topic before, but, it will be even better to include more signature DADGAD pieces (or excerpt) by those masters.
When the time I finished reading the first two chapters, I got the illusion of DADGAD's far more easier to grasp than the standard tuning. Or didn't I ?
Highly recommended.
